Why Learner Feedback is so Important to eLearning

03 Jun 2019Learner feedback is crucial in any learning environment to enable constant improvement in the delivery of content and therefore results from learners. It is particularly important however, when it comes to eLearning courses.
eLearning is online learning and includes little to no contact between the instructor and the learners. As a result, it is very difficult for the Instructors to gauge how successful a course is. While most eLearning courses include a learning outcome or a final which shows how learners have fared, this does not capture how engaged the learner was, if they felt the information was relevant and how the course could be improved to lead to greater results in future.
Learner feedback provides instructors with valuable information on aspects of the course which they thought were interesting, parts of the course that were irrelevant and what improvements could be made in the near future. This feedback can then be incorporated in the course for the next batch of learners.
As well as working out advantageous for instructors, asking for learner feedback works wonders for the learners themselves. When learners are asked for their opinion, they are conscious of the fact that the instructor, and therefore, the organisation, are truly concerned about their growth. This concern leads to better participation and enthusiasm for learning that is carried through to other training programs as well. Additional to this, through reflection on the course the learner also reflects on the information learned leading to better retention rate.
Organisations should make sure that they are always requesting feedback from their learners to ensure the learning experience is the best possible – after all it’s the organisation that will benefit from more educated staff in the long run. Hence, It is important to get learner feedbacks to improve learning process and users’ experiences in any cooperation.
