Increasing the Productivity of Temporary Staff Through eLearning

      By Woody Maxey-Graham 27 Jun 2019

An organisation looking to hire temporary staff is generally either experiencing a temporary shortage of manpower or is entering a peak season creating a demand for more staff. Under such circumstances, organisation often do not have the resources or time to provide fully fledged training to a temporary employee.

In order to ensure the productivity of the temporary staff member and to demonstrate to them that they are valued by the organisation, comprehensive training is a non-negotiable. In such a situation an LMS hosting a well-designed learning module is crucial.

An LMS enables the quick assignment of training courses to the learner and removes the need for a trainer to be present throughout the process. The platform also enables a manager to only assign courses relevant to the new starter resulting in no wasted time reviewing unnecessary information.

Bespoke eLearning providers are now able to build and easily update learning courses specific to an individual organisation’s unique requirements. This means that the information within the module is relevant to the actual role that the learner will be performing.

Temporary staff members can quickly become disengaged believing that the information which they are learning will eventually be irrelevant to them. This means that the interactivity of the learning module is crucial in keeping the learner engaged and maximising retention. This can be achieved in eLearning through the inclusion of information delivery methods such as video, audio and gamification.

Most learning modules include a final test which must be completed in order to complete the course and is an excellent way to ensure that the learner has taken in all the required information and is ready to perform the role. The LMS then enables managers to quickly review the progress of all learners and their results and identify should any staff require additional training and in what areas.

As well as educating the new member of the team and maximising both their productivity and value to the organisation, comprehensive training will also demonstrate that they are valued by the organisation as any permanent staff member would be – ultimately resulting in better staff morale and performance.
